Kathmandu: H.E. Zhang Maoming, Ambassador of China to Nepal, held a courtesy meeting with Hon. Mahabir Pun, Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation. During the meeting, they held discussions on forming a committee to advance the agreement reached in 2023 to collaborate in science, technology, and innovation, which according to Minister Pun has not progressed so far.
China currently invests 2.8% of its GDP in research and development. Some key topics that were discussed were: Development of innovation centers in Nepal, research and development in the biotechnology sector, research on high-altitude regions and alpine medical herbs, sharing of satellite data for ecological monitoring, collaboration on climate change and environmental research, collaboration on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, and exchange and training of researchers and scientists.
Ambassador Zhang shared details on how the Chinese government plans to carry out various works in the 15th Five-Year Plan for the development of science, technology, and innovation, and also provided a copy of the large document of that plan.
