Kathmandu: The Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu hosted a series of events in Chongqing on December 11-12 to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China.
The events began with the 2nd ILSTC High-Quality Products Exhibition and Cooperation Fair on December 11, showcasing Nepali products such as tea, coffee, pashmina, felt, incense, singing bowls, and thangka paintings. Cultural performances included the Chinese traditional instrument Guqin and two ethnic dance performances by Nepali university students.
On December 12, the formal event titled “Bridging the Himalayas: Unleashing the Treasure of Civilization” was held at the World Financial Centre in Chongqing, organized by the Consulate and the International Communication and Cooperation Alliance (ICCA) with support from Yuzhong District Government. Attendees included Deng Guanghuai, Executive Deputy District Chief of Yuzhong, Fan Min, Deputy Director General-Level Inspector of the Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing, and over 50 business and media representatives.
The program featured cultural performances, opening remarks highlighting Nepal-China relations, and discussions on future cooperation. The Consulate also awarded ICCA a plaque for establishing a permanent Nepal National Pavilion in Chongqing to showcase Nepali products, the first in the city and the fourth within the Consulate’s jurisdiction.
Presentations included a thematic overview of Nepal’s tourism sector by Laxman Gautam, Director of Nepal Tourism Board, and remarks on economic and trade exchanges by Anoop Ranjan Bhattarai, President of the Nepal China Executive Council.
Ahead of the events, the Consul General met with the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office on December 10 to discuss collaboration opportunities between Nepal and Chongqing.
