Kathmandu: With Nepal facing economic challenges, political uncertainty, and declining business confidence, the role of the private sector in protecting human rights has become increasingly important.
At an event organized by UNDP’s Business +Human Rights project, supported by Switzerland, more than 100 representatives from civil society and the private sector gathered to discuss Nepal’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights.
Participants highlighted ongoing challenges, including security concerns, labour issues, vulnerabilities in the informal sector, supply-chain risks, and limited space for ethical business practices. Despite these difficulties, attendees emphasized the importance of dignity, fairness, and accountability in strengthening Nepal’s business environment.
Key points shared during the event included: protecting human rights helps build business resilience, ethical business practices can rebuild trust during difficult times, and responsible business is crucial for Nepal’s long-term stability and development.
The gathering served not only as a consultation but also as a collective call to action, reaffirming that strong values and principles must continue guiding Nepal’s path forward.
