Kathmandu: Gyan Bahadur Magar, Deputy Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, spoke at the General Debate of the Fourth Committee of UNGA81. He reaffirmed the importance of upholding the UN Charter, including the principles of sovereign equality, equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and the landmark Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, to advance the inalienable rights and political freedom of the peoples in 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories.
Stressing that colonialism must end in all its forms and manifestations, he underscored that political self-determination must go hand in hand with economic agency, sustainable development, climate resilience and inclusive participation.
DPR Magar also called for a people-centred and results-oriented approach to accomplishing the unfinished decolonization agenda through dialogue, diplomacy and partnership.
