Presidential MUN 2025 Opens in Kathmandu – Dr. Dhakal Urges Youth to Lead Nepal’s Global Voice

"When young people think, speak, engage, and show up, nations begin to change, and the world begins to heal," Dr. Dhakal at Presidential MUN 2025.

Kathmandu: The Presidential Model United Nations 2025 officially commenced on June 27 at the Presidential Graduate School, Kathmandu, with Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, president of International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue and Ambassadors Club, inaugurating the event by lighting the traditional panas.

This year’s edition has drawn over 350 high school graduates from across Nepal, engaging as young delegates in simulations of ten diverse committees tackling critical global issues ranging from politics and security to social and environmental agendas. The three-day conference also features multiple panel discussions, bringing together leading diplomats, scholars, policymakers, and changemakers from both national and international spheres.

Dr. Dhakal thanked Principal Ms. Kalpana Gurung and Executive Chairman Laxman KC, along with the organizing team, for the invitation.

Sharing her diplomatic journey, the former ambassador to Oman and Spain recounted her early posting in Oman, where she worked tirelessly to protect the rights of Nepali migrant workers and foster bilateral trust. Later, in Spain, she represented Nepal on multilateral platforms, striving to build meaningful partnerships across cultures.

“You can do everything because real change begins with participation,” Dr. Dhakal told the delegates.

She added, “When young people think, speak, engage, and show up, nations begin to change, and the world begins to heal. From the classrooms of Kathmandu to the halls of Geneva, we need young Nepalis who can lead with confidence, speak with clarity, think globally, and act boldly. The world must not only hear about Nepal it must hear from Nepal. And that starts right here, right now, with you.”

The Presidential MUN 2025, organized by the Presidential Graduate School, continues through June 29, aiming to inspire a new generation of globally minded Nepali leaders.
