Kathmandu: Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said preparations are underway in a planned manner to prevent the possible misuse of technology in the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election, scheduled for March 5.
Addressing a programme organized by the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday, Bhandari said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with TikTok would help create a clean digital environment during the election. He expressed confidence that the agreement would minimize violations of the election code of conduct and help curb the spread of false and misleading information, while thanking TikTok for providing support free of cost.
The MoU was exchanged between EC Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai and Head of Public Policy and Government Relations at TikTok, Ferdous Al Mottakin. The Election Commission said the initiative would contribute to maintaining the impartiality of the HoR election and strengthen efforts to control misleading and harmful content that could influence voters.
