Kathmandu: Lok Bahadur Thapa, UN ECOSOC President, delivered an opening statement at the 12th session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on April 28.
In his opening statement, President Thapa stressed that Africa is at a critical juncture in the implementation of the Agenda2023 and Agenda2063, facing increased conflict, climate-related disasters, economic instability, and growing inequalities.
He emphasized that sustainable development cannot advance without fair and equitable financing, and that Africa’s immense potential depends on investment in jobs, infrastructure, skills, and youth empowerment, alongside stronger multilateral cooperation and coordinated action to turn the tide.
