ECOSOC President Thapa Meets UNESCAP Chief to Discuss SDG Preparations

Kathmandu: Lok Bahadur Thapa, the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) met on February 25 with Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

During the meeting, the ECOSOC President congratulated Alisjahbana on the successful convening of the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), noting its important role in supporting preparations for the July High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and the ECOSOC High-level Segment.

The two officials discussed ongoing preparations for both ECOSOC and the HLPF, which will focus on advancing transformative and coordinated actions to accelerate implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They also reviewed follow-up efforts related to the Pact for the Future, the Sevilla Commitment, the Doha Political Declaration, and the UN 80 Initiative.

The meeting underscored the importance of regional and global cooperation in driving progress toward the SDGs.
