Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal in Colombo held a Candle Lighting and Condolence Ceremony at the Embassy premises on September 7, marking the Day of National Mourning declared by the Government of Nepal in honour and remembrance of those who tragically lost their lives in the devastating flash floods in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26, 2026.
The ceremony was organized as a solemn tribute to the departed souls and to express solidarity with the bereaved families and all those affected by the devastating floods.
Charge d’Affaires Vijay Kumar Raut addressed the gathering and expressed his sincere gratitude for the participants for joining the candle lighting ceremony.
Diplomatic officials of the Embassy of Nepal, together with representatives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism, the Government of Sri Lanka, Ambassadors from different Diplomatic Missions, International Organizations, Nepali community and organizations, and friends and well-wishers of Nepal, participated in the ceremony and lit candles in remembrance of the victims.
The Embassy opened a Condolence Book from 31st August to 3rd September 2026 and on 7th September 2026, providing an opportunity for the representatives of Government of Sri Lanka, representatives of Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations, members of Nepali communities, well-wishers and individuals to convey their condolences and solidarity.
The Embassy of Nepal expressed its sincere appreciation to all those who joined the ceremony and stood in solidarity with Nepal at this time of profound grief.
