Kathmandu: FAO Nepal and UNFPA Nepal joint programme on “Anticipatory Flood Response in Eastern Nepal” received the 2026 Human Security Award. Presented at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Arun GC, Assistant FAO Representative, accepted the award on behalf of both organizations, their partners, and the communities served.
FAO Nepal stated that this recognition belongs to the local governments, community members, and dedicated teams who made anticipatory action a reality in Eastern Nepal. By reaching vulnerable households before floods escalate into crises, the programme has helped protect livelihoods, enable faster recovery, and strengthen resilience to future shocks.
They further emphasized that for FAO Nepal and UNFPA Nepal, this award affirms the importance of working alongside communities to deliver solutions that respond to real needs.
