Kathmandu: FAO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD), ICIMOD, and the Yak and Chauri Farmers Federation Nepal, successfully celebrated the Second National Yak Day 2026 in Gatlang, Rasuwa.
The event placed pastoral communities as the centre as it is set in the highland landscapes where yak herding remains a way of life. The event focused on creating space for yak herders to share their experiences, challenges, and priorities directly with policymakers and key stakeholders. Aligned with the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026, this year’s celebration underscored the value of yak herders and pastoral systems, making National Yak Day a truly community‑led dialogue.
