Kathmandu: FAO Representative for Bhutan and Nepal, Ken Shimizu, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Zhang Maoming, Ambassador of China to Nepal. The event was joined by delegates from China Agricultural University (CAU) led by professor Li Xiaoyun, to explore opportunities for strengthened collaboration in agrifood systems transformation, knowledge exchange and agricultural modernization.
The discussion emphasized the strong Nepal-China partnership in agriculture, with interest in promoting Nepali exports to China while advancing technology transfer and innovation. Ongoing collaboration with CAU, opportunities for academic and expert exchanges, and cooperation on areas such as Geographical Indications were noted, alongside similarities in geography and climate that underscore strong potential for knowledge exchange.
The meeting reaffirmed shared commitment to deepen collaboration in supporting sustainable agrifood systems and improved livelihoods for farmers and rural communities.
