Kathmandu: The Fifteenth Meeting of the Governing Board of the South Asian University (SAU) was held virtually on February 3, 2026, bringing together representatives from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states, the SAARC Secretariat, and the President and senior leadership of the University.
The meeting was chaired by Senior Professor Kapila Senevirathne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. The Governing Board reviewed SAU’s progress during the reporting period, including the annual budget, developments in academic programmes, administrative reforms, and financial planning. Discussions also focused on faculty development and the University’s future strategic direction.
Established as a key institution of regional cooperation under SAARC, the South Asian University continues to play an important role in promoting academic collaboration, advancing regional research, and strengthening people-to-people ties across South Asia, contributing to youth development and broader regional growth.
