Kathmandu: Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal held separate meetings with the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, on Tuesday.
In his meeting with Ambassador Srivastava, Minister Khanal highlighted the long-standing Nepal-India relations and expressed gratitude for India’s continuous support. According to ministry, Minister Khanal emphasized the importance of continued economic partnerships with neighboring and donor countries during Nepal’s current challenges. Ambassador Srivastava reaffirmed India’s readiness to support Nepal in development projects, encourage Indian private sector investment, and strengthen trade coordination between the two countries.
During his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Chen Song, Minister Khanal thanked China for its ongoing support and underlined the government’s priority of holding timely elections while maintaining economic cooperation with China. He also requested deeper banking sector collaboration, the establishment of a Chinese bank branch in Nepal, simplified payment mechanisms for Nepali exports, and greater Chinese investment.
Ambassador Chen assured that China respects the choices of the Nepali people and will continue its support. He said that Chinese-assisted projects are progressing well and expressed Chinese investors’ willingness to invest in Nepal, with plans for further interactions once the situation improves.
