Kathmandu: Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, held a Diplomatic Briefing at the Ministry for Kathmandu-based Diplomatic Corps on the devastating Bhote Koshi River floods on September 3.
The Minister briefed Heads and Representatives of Diplomatic Missions and international organisations on the Government’s search, rescue and relief efforts, the situation of foreign nationals and the solidarity and support extended by the international community.
Expressing sincere gratitude to Nepal’s immediate neighbours, friends and partners for their condolences, sympathies and timely assistance, the Minister also outlined mechanisms established for information-sharing, coordination and consular support to families of missing foreign nationals.
The Minister called for continued international solidarity and support as Nepal moves towards recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
He underscored the disproportionate climate risks faced by vulnerable and mountain countries like Nepal, stressing the urgency of climate action, resilience-building, climate justice and greater mobilisation of resources for adaptation, mitigation and resilient reconstruction.
He also called on friends around the world to support Nepal by choosing to visit. While the affected areas face a difficult recovery, much of Nepal remains safe, open and ready to welcome visitors with its warmth and hospitality.
