Kathmandu: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, addressed the ECOSOC Special Meeting themed ‘Safeguarding Energy and Supply Flows: Supporting Global Development through International Cooperation’ at the UN Headquarters in New York on May 16.
Foreign Minister Khanal highlighted that disruptions in global energy and supply flows pose serious threats to poverty reduction, human security, and the achievement of SDGs.
He underlined the importance of engaging in diplomacy and dialogue to resolve differences, ensuring global peace, stability and peaceful coexistence, strengthening multilateralism and global cooperation anchored in solidarity, partnerships and international law including UN Charter.
He also stressed to scale up investment in resilient infrastructure, renewable energy, sustainable supply systems, and technological innovation and support the most vulnerable and countries in special situations, especially LDCs and LLDCs like Nepal through concessional financing, emergency liquidity support, and debt relief measures.
