Kathmandu: Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, and Cho Hyun, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singhadurbar on September 6.
On the occasion, the two Foreign Ministers discussed matters relating to the ongoing search, rescue and relief operations, including the search of the missing nationals of the Republic of Korea in the aftermath of the devastating floods in the Bhote Koshi river on 26 August 2026.
Minister Khanal expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Korea for sending the interagency rapid response team as well as the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) to the flood-affected areas of Nepal. He also appreciated the humanitarian assistance and supply of relief materials. Outlining the next priority of the Government of Nepal that includes building back resilient, durable and better infrastructure, he expressed hope of receiving continued support from the Republic of Korea.
Minister Cho expressed willingness of the Government of the Republic of Korea to support Nepal in the post-disaster reconstruction efforts. Stating that the world community has historical responsibility for the damage done to countries like Nepal due to climate change, he said that Nepal and the Republic of Korea should work hand in hand to sensitise other countries about the impacts of climate change, including in global forums like COP. He said that the Republic of Korea will also raise its voice regarding the financial support that Nepal should get from the international community.
The two Ministers reiterated their commitment to continue working closely to further strengthen and elevate bilateral relations to new heights based on the longstanding friendship, mutual trust, and cooperation.
