Kathmandu: Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai addressed the High-Level Discussion on “Beyond 2030: Renewing the Global Commitment to End Poverty in All its Dimensions” at UNHQ, New York, on the margins of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA81).
Foreign Secretary Rai underscored that poverty is not merely a lack of income, but a denial of basic capabilities, security and human agency—stressing the imperative of a multidimensional approach to poverty eradication.
Highlighting Nepal’s progress and persistent challenges, he also drew attention to the disproportionate impacts of the accelerating climate crisis, including the loss of precious lives and critical infrastructure in the recent devastating climate disaster in Nepal.
He therefore called for climate-resilient development, climate justice, closing financing and technology gaps, and accelerated delivery on global development commitments including the 2030Agenda and the Pact for the Future.
