Foreign Secretary Rai to Lead Nepali Delegation to UPR in Geneva

Kathmandu: Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai is scheduled to leave for Switzerland on January 18, 2026, leading a Nepali delegation to the fourth cycle of Nepal’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

The review will take place in Geneva on January 21, 2026 during the 51st Session of the UPR Working Group of the UN Human Rights Council. The UPR is a unique mechanism that periodically reviews the human rights records of all UN Member States, with each country undergoing review approximately every four-and-a-half years.

During the session, the Nepali delegation will present Nepal’s national report, highlighting progress made since the previous review and ongoing efforts to promote and protect human rights. The delegation will also take part in an interactive dialogue with UN Member States.

The delegation includes senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, and the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva.
