French Embassy Hands Over French Language Training Program to Nepali Army’s BPOTC

Kathmandu: The French Embassy in Nepal has handed over a 120-hour French language training program to the Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre (BPOTC) of the Nepali Army. The program was developed by Alliance française Katmandou (AFK) and funded by the Defence Wing of the French Embassy.

The handover took place on 17 November during a visit by Ambassador Virginie Corteval to BPOTC. She was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Marie Holtzinger, Deputy Defence Attaché for Nepal, and Sylvain Choin, Director of Alliance française Katmandou.

Highlighting Nepal’s significant role in global peacekeeping, Ambassador Corteval said that France is proud to support the training and professional development of Nepali Army personnel engaged in international missions through linguistic cooperation.

The training program aims to strengthen oral comprehension and expression in French for Nepali peacekeepers operating in environments where French is used as an operational language. The 120-hour course is delivered virtually using the Apolearn platform, with supervision from a teacher at BPOTC. Lessons are customized and translated into Nepali, with a focus on oral proficiency.

Participants will also receive an AFK membership card, providing access to the AFK media library, workshops, and the digital platform Culturethèque.

This initiative reflects the commitment of France and Nepal to enhancing the linguistic and professional skills of Nepali peacekeepers.
