Gender-Responsive Procurement (GRP) Workshop Held in Madhesh Province

Kathmandu: A Gender-Responsive Procurement (GRP) workshop was held from May 30 to May 31, in Madhesh Province under the EU-UN Joint Programme, Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal (EWPN).

Organized by UN Women Nepal, the workshop brought together private sector representatives to strengthen understanding of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), with a particular focus on gender-responsive procurement practices and promoting inclusive, equitable and sustainable business approaches within supply chains and workplace systems.

Gender-responsive procurement is the sustainable procurement of goods, services and works that considers their impact on gender equality and women’s empowerment. By sourcing from women-owned and gender-responsive enterprises, businesses can help create more inclusive value chains, expand economic opportunities for women, and contribute to more resilient and sustainable economies.

As Nepal advances inclusive economic development agenda, the private sector can play a critical role in ensuring that procurement decisions create opportunities for women entrepreneurs and businesses, while driving positive social and economic outcomes for all.
