Kathmandu: Hon. Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal expressed his gratitude for the support of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) during the difficult time of the disaster and expressed the government’s commitment to cooperate with the NRNA and the international community in all phases of relief and reconstruction. The delegation included the NRNA International Coordinating Council Chairman, Dr. Hemraj Sharma, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) at Singhadarbar on August 31.
Minister Khanal said that NRNA’s initiative to integrate the Nepalese community abroad and mobilize them for disaster management and reconstruction is welcome. For this, he expressed the commitment of MoFA to continue coordination, cooperation and facilitation with NRNA. Minister Khanal mentioned that the current disaster is different from normal floods and of a very large nature and said that many settlements of Rasuwa and Nuwakot have suffered huge loss of human resources and physical infrastructure.
He said that the restoration and reconstruction of such a big disaster cannot be done by the Nepal government alone, he said that cooperation with NRNA and the international community is necessary at all stages of relief and reconstruction. He said that NRNA can distribute relief in coordination with the local government and related agencies and the necessary details should be provided to the government before and after the distribution of relief.
On this occasion, the NRNA International Coordinating Council donated Rs. 1 crore. A delegation including NRNA President Dr. Sharma handed over the amount to Foreign Minister Khanal. According to the association, in the first phase, the funds collected from NRNA officers and activists and various National Coordination Councils (NCCs) have been transferred to the fund. NRNA has already deposited the said one crore rupees in the account of the fund. NRNA has allocated Rs. 5 crores.
