India to Buy Additional 200 MW Electricity from Nepal

Kathmandu: The Indian government has agreed to purchase an additional 200 megawatts (MW) of electricity from Nepal, raising Nepal’s total approved export to India to 1,011 MW.

This electricity will come from six hydropower projects, including Likhu-2, Likhu Khola A, Lower Solu, Thulo Khola, Super Kabeli Khola A, and Super Kabeli Khola.

Nepal also exports 40 MW to Bangladesh, bringing its total approved electricity export to 1,050.9 MW. The new 200 MW export permit to India will remain valid until October 31.

In the last fiscal year 2024/25, Nepal earned Rs 17.47 billion from electricity exports to India. The Nepal Electricity Authority expects earnings to double this year as additional export permits have been secured.
