Kathmandu: One year has passed since the youth-led “Gen Z” protest which began in Kathmandu and other cities of Nepal on September 8. The day marked Gen Z Martyrs’ Day and multiple international agencies have come forward to stand in solidarity with Nepal.
The Embassy of Australia stated that they stand with Nepal in remembrance and solidarity for Gen Z Martyrs’ Day.
The Norwegian Embassy released a statement for Gen Z Martyrs’ Day where they said, “A year ago, thousands of young Nepalis took to the streets, calling for change and a better future. Today, Nepal marks Gen Z Martyrs’ Day, remembering those who lost their lives in the Gen Z movement of September 2025. We honour their memory and extend our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones.”
The UK Embassy extended their deepest condolences for Gen Z Martyrs’ Day. They said, “In remembrance of young people who lost their lives during the events of September 2025.” The UK stated to stand with the people of Nepal in remembrance and reflection.
The US Embassy honored the memory of those who lost their lives and recognizes the aspiration of Nepal’s young people for a more prosperous and hopeful future. They said, “This day of remembrance comes as communities around the world grieve alongside Nepal following the recent devastating floods. In this time of shared mourning, the United States remains a steadfast friend and partner to the people of Nepal.”
The Embassy of Japan paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the previous year’s tragic events and stood with their families and friends in their grief. They stated, “The hopes and aspirations of Nepal’s young generation will not be forgotten, and we respect the unwavering efforts of the people of Nepal to uphold democracy, freedom, inclusivity, and social justice under the Constitution.”
