Kathmandu: JICA and Government of Nepal signed Grant Agreement of JPY 2.85 Billion for Modernization of Air Traffic Control Facilities at Tribhuvan International Airport on October 8.
The project seeks to modernize air traffic control services at Tribhuvan International Airport by constructing new air traffic control facilities and introducing advanced Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems. The existing facilities face significant operational limitations due to deterioration, inadequate space, reduced visibility, and obsolete equipment. By upgrading critical air traffic control infrastructure, the project will improve aviation safety, operational efficiency, punctuality, and service quality while supporting Nepal’s national transport development objectives.
Given the anticipated growth in domestic and international air traffic, the project is expected to generate substantial and long-term benefits for many air transport users, contributing to safer, more efficient, and sustainable aviation operations in Nepal. The expected year for the project completion is 2030.
