Kathmandu: Nepal and the Russian Federation concluded the meeting of bilateral consultations in Kathmandu on October 7.
The meeting, which also coincided with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia, reviewed overall aspects of Nepal-Russia relations. The two sides appreciated the longstanding friendship and close partnership between the two countries. The two sides, while briefing each other about the political and economic developments in each other’s countries, reaffirmed their commitment to further promoting cooperation and collaboration in various areas including education, human resource development, culture, tourism, climate change, trade and investment, among others.
The consultations also featured the issues of Nepali nationals in the Russian Army, including the missing Nepali nationals, Nepali nationals detained in Ukraine as Prisoners of War and compensation. Views were also exchanged on various regional and multilateral matters of mutual interest, including climate change and cooperation in multilateral systems.
Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Deputy-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia H.E. Andrey Rudenko co-chaired their respective delegations. The Russian delegation consisted of the Ambassador of Russia to Nepal H.E. Aleksei Surovtsev, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia as well as diplomats from the Embassy. The Nepali delegation included Head of Europe Division Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the sectoral Ministries.
Following the meeting, Foreign Secretary Rai hosted a luncheon in honour of the Deputy Minister Rudenko, and accompanying delegates.
The Protocol on Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation was signed on 5 September 1995.
