Minister Ghising Meets Japanese Ambassador to Discuss Development Cooperation

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, held a courtesy meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Maeda Toru, at Singha Durbar.

Ambassador Toru congratulated Minister Ghising on behalf of the Government of Japan and wished him a successful tenure. He said, “Japan remains committed to supporting Nepal in major projects of strategic importance and in areas that contribute to sustainable economic and social development.”

Discussions focused on Japan’s longstanding support to Nepal through bilateral grants, loans, multilateral and technical assistance, as well as the implementation status of ongoing projects. Key topics included additional assistance for the Nagdhunga Tunnel, reconstruction of the BP Highway, support for the 140 MW Tanahun Hydropower Project, improvements at Koteshwor Chowk, and progress in strengthening the electricity transmission and distribution system.

Minister Ghising thanked Japan for its continued partnership, stating, “Japan’s assistance has made a significant contribution to Nepal’s development priorities. We seek further cooperation in reservoir-based hydropower projects such as the 670 MW Dudhkoshi and 1200 MW Budhigandaki, in preparing new infrastructure projects, and in designing a 100-year integrated master plan for urban management of the Kathmandu Valley.”
