Kathmandu: Building a stronger and more inclusive social protection system was at the heart of a high-level Provincial Policy Dialogue which was held in Janakpur on June 22.
Hosted by the Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare, Madhesh Province, with support from the EU- and UN-funded Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal (EWPN) programme, the dialogue brought together provincial parliamentarians, government leaders, local governments, civil society, researchers, development partners and technical experts to discuss sustainable financing for social protection.
Discussions were focused on how to strengthen policy coherence, secure predictable financing, improve coordination across all levels of government, and enhance data and accountability systems to ensure support reaches those who need it most—particularly women, children, persons with disabilities, marginalized communities and vulnerable households.
The participants reaffirmed that social protection is more than a safety net. It is an investment in human capital, resilience, social inclusion and sustainable development. Together, stakeholders committed to advancing a more equitable, shock-responsive and sustainably financed social protection system that leaves no one behind.
