Kathmandu: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) released a new code of conduct followed with a list of public rules, safety, and ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts for tourists to follow during their visit to Nepal.
The new guidelines are available in Nepali and English and outline some of the key components: Entry Formalities, Vehicles & Drivers, Healthcare, Money, Ornaments, Pilgrimage, Trekking & Mountaineering, Respect Local Culture & Tradition, and Security.
Some of the highlights from the list include having secure entry permits through Custom Department Government of Nepal upon arrival at Nepal Border. It also mentions that tourists’ vehicles and luggages will be thoroughly checked for security reasons. The conduct also mentioned Nepal’s geography and the requirement to keep the vehicles in perfect condition throughout the trip.
For money, it states that Indian tourists are only allowed to carry Indian Rupees (INR) cash up to 5000 US Dollars (USD).
Waste Management is of utmost priority with the Ministry requesting tourists to keep the sites clean and mentioning that littering on roads is considered violation of rules and subject to punishment. Tourists are also expected to coordinate with the hotels or obtain permission and required support.
Passengers also must declare their ornaments, whether it’s gold, silver, or precious stones, upon entry to avoid any hassle during entry and exit formalities.
A key highlight of the code of conduct is to respect local culture and tradition where travelers are requested to dress up decently and avoid revealing clothes as well as to take off their shoes and slippers out of the temple or sacred places.
The Ministry aims to foster an organized tourism sector to ensure Nepal’s environmental and cultural integrity as well as prioritizing tourists’ safety.
