MoFA Briefs on West Asia Situation, Nepali Nationals’ Safety and New Passport System

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal organized a press briefing on March 20 focusing on the evolving situation in West Asia, the status of Nepali nationals in the region, and the implementation plan for a new passport system.
During the briefing, Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Chhetri provided an overview of the current developments, emphasizing the Government’s continued priority on ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of Nepali citizens abroad.
Joint Secretary Ram Kaji Khadka shared updates from the third meeting of the Emergency Response Team (ERT). He highlighted key decisions, including updates on labour permits, the formation of Rapid Response Teams in concerned diplomatic missions, and the status of registered Nepali nationals in the region, including those in transit.
The spokesperson also urged Nepali nationals in West Asia to rely only on official information, avoid sharing prohibited content, and strictly follow advisories issued by the Ministry and host countries.
Director General Tirtha Raj Aryal briefed the media on the new passport system, including ongoing testing processes and the transition plan for its implementation.
