Kathmandu: Nepal has underscored the urgent need to protect children affected by armed conflict during its intervention at the United Nations Security Council Arria-Formula Meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN in New York, Gyan Bahadur Magar, stressed the imperative of safeguarding children in conflict settings. He emphasized the need to prevent the recruitment of children into armed groups, ensure their continued access to education, and hold perpetrators accountable for violations against children.
Highlighting the long-term consequences of conflict on young lives, Magar called for sustained global cooperation and adequate investment in peace and conflict-resilient education systems. He also stressed the importance of reintegration support for formerly recruited children, alongside preventive diplomacy to address the root causes of armed conflict.
