Nepal Urges Stronger Multilateralism at UNSC Debate on Global Peace and Security

Kathmandu: Nepal’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lok Bahadur Thapa, addressed the 10024th meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate titled “Looking into the Future” under the agenda item “Maintenance of International Peace and Security” on October 24.

The open debate served as a platform to reaffirm that the United Nations remains a vital and adaptable mechanism for addressing today’s most pressing global challenges.

In his address, Ambassador Thapa emphasized the need for renewed commitment to the UN Charter, strengthening multilateralism, and rebuilding trust to enhance the organization’s ability to respond effectively to global issues.

“The urgency of revitalizing multilateralism has never been greater. A stronger, more inclusive multilateral system with the United Nations at its core is essential to navigate complex challenges and uphold our shared values,” stated Thapa.

Ambassador Thapa also highlighted Nepal’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping operations for nearly 70 years, reaffirming the country’s steadfast commitment to global peace and security.
