KATHMANDU: For the first time in the history of the Nepali Army, there has been formal representation from the Sikh community.

Karan Singh Sikh, a resident of Janki Rural Municipality Ward No. 2 in Banke District, has become the first Sikh to be enlisted in the Nepali Army.

He enrolled at Bahini Adda, Nepalgunj, on July 16, 2024, and completed his military base training at the Gorkha Box Battalion on June 6, 2025. Following the completion of his training, he was officially initiated into the rank of a soldier.

This milestone reflects the Nepali Army’s continued commitment to inclusivity and diversity, as outlined in Nepal’s constitutional provisions. The constitution guarantees that citizens of all castes, religions, and communities have equal rights and opportunities to serve in national institutions, including the military.
