PM Karki Instructs Missions Abroad to Inform Global Partners About Changes in Nepal After Gen-Z Movement

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed all Nepali ambassadors and heads of missions abroad to brief their respective countries about the recent political and social changes in Nepal following the Gen-Z Movement.

During a virtual discussion held on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Karki emphasized the importance of keeping international partners informed about Nepal’s transition and priorities.

“It is necessary to inform all stakeholders, including government agencies in the countries where we work, about the great movement in Nepal, the desire of the citizens for change, and the priorities of the interim government,” said Prime Minister Karki.

She also instructed missions to coordinate with foreign governments and international organizations as Nepal prepares for the upcoming general election scheduled for March 5, 2025.

“The government is firm and committed to conducting free, fair, and fear-free elections. Coordination with partner governments and organizations is essential to ensure transparency and effective participation,” she added.

Highlighting economic recovery, Karki urged missions to promote the revival of the tourism sector, which had slowed down during the protests.

“The situation in Nepal has now normalized, and economic activities including tourism, trade, and investment have resumed as before,” she said, noting that Nepal continued to uphold its culture of Atithi Devo Bhava (Guests are gods) even during challenging times.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the establishment of a Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund to ensure transparent and efficient use of resources for relief, reconstruction, and economic revival.

Furthermore, she stressed the need to enhance services for Nepali workers abroad and ensure their rights and dignity are protected.

“Nepalis abroad and their families in Nepal expect efficient, transparent, and accountable service delivery. We cannot escape our public and legal responsibility,” she said.

According to Lok Bahadur Chhetri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister’s instructions also included improving consular services, addressing issues related to visit visa misuse, and coordinating efforts to protect Nepali migrant workers from exploitation.
