Russian Embassy Hosts State Reception on Russia Day

Kathmandu: The Embassy of the Russian Federation hosted an official state reception on the occasion of Russia Day on June 24. Russia Day is the national holiday of the Russian Federation. The solemn ceremony was held at the Dusit Princess Hotel in Kathmandu.

Rt. Hon. Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Vice-President of Nepal, graced the evening as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of business circles, academia, public figures, media, and Russian compatriots.

In his welcoming speech, H.E. Aleksei V. Surovtsev, Ambassador of Russia to Nepal, highlighted the significance of Russia Day as a symbol of the country’s thousand-year statehood, national cohesion, and rich historical and cultural heritage.

Ambassador Surovtsev specifically emphasized that this year holds special significance for Russia and Nepal, as two countries mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He stressed that the traditional and time-tested friendship between Russia and Nepal is based on goodwill, mutual respect, and people-to-people contacts. Russia has always valued  Nepal’s sovereign foreign policy, rooted in non-alignment and the principles of Panchsheel.

The Ambassador expressed Russia’s readiness to further strengthen partnership with Nepal across a wide range of areas, including energy, education, tourism, culture, and humanitarian exchanges. He voiced appreciation for Nepal’s long-standing diplomatic traditions and its constructive role in regional and global affairs.

He reiterated Russia’s consistent stance in favor of a multipolar international system based on equal and indivisible security, respect for the civilizational identity of nations, and the sovereign right of each state to choose its own development path.

The Ambassador also presented Russia’s vision for constructive engagement through the Greater Eurasian Partnership and the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century. He noted that these initiatives, along with platforms such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, offer substantial opportunities for cooperation with Asian nations, including Nepal.

The Embassy stated that the festive atmosphere of the evening was enhanced by a captivating musical performance by artists invited from Russia.
