Kathmandu: The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, Park Taeyoung, attended the inauguration ceremony of the Sunakothi Greenhouse Project in Lalitpur on March 26, marking a significant step in strengthening Nepal–South Korea cooperation in the agricultural sector.
The project, supported by Cheorwon-Gun City of South Korea—a sister city of Lalitpur Metropolitan City—aims to modernize traditional farming practices and enhance agricultural productivity through the use of advanced greenhouse technology.
Speaking at the event, Lee Hyunjong, Mayor of Cheorwon-Gun City, underscored the importance of sister-city partnerships and expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. He highlighted potential collaboration in modern agriculture, waste management, urban beautification, and sports development, emphasizing the exchange of best practices between the two cities.

The initiative focuses on supporting local women farmers associated with the Chhahari Krishi Ekal Mahila Samuha in Sunakothi. The project includes the construction of greenhouse tunnels designed to enable off-season vegetable production, alongside training programs to equip farmers with modern agricultural skills.
In his remarks, Ambassador Park described the greenhouse project as a symbol of the growing friendship between Nepal and South Korea. He noted that the introduction of advanced agricultural technologies would help farmers overcome seasonal constraints, boost productivity, and improve incomes.
Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chiribabu Maharjan, also welcomed the initiative, stating that the project would bring long-term benefits to Nepal’s agricultural sector. He emphasized that the transfer of knowledge and skills would empower local farmers and strengthen their livelihoods.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 50 participants, including officials from Cheorwon-Gun City, representatives of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, members of the local women farmers’ group, and officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal.
