Kathmandu: The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal, Ruwanthi Delpitiya, took part in the sacred Katina Pooja (ritual offering of new robes) ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Maha Viharaya in Lumbini on November 1 and 2.
The two-day religious event was presided over by the Anunayaka Thero of the Asgiri Chapter, Ven. Wendaruwe Upali Thero, in close collaboration with the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Lanka Maha Viharaya, Ven. Tissamaharamaye Pannasara Thero.
The programme began on November 1 with the chanting of Pirith and the lighting of oil lamps at the revered Mayadevi Temple, the birthplace of Prince Siddhartha. On November 2, a solemn procession carrying the Katina Cheewara made its way to the Sri Lanka Maha Viharaya, followed by almsgiving and the offering of the robes. The ceremony concluded with a communal lunch for all attendees.
The event highlighted the deep spiritual bond and shared Buddhist heritage that continue to strengthen the friendship between Sri Lanka and Nepal.
