Bhairahawa (Rupandehi): Around 300 monks from Thailand have begun a peace walk from Lumbini in Rupandehi district to Ramagram Stupa in Nawalparasi West, spreading the message of peace, compassion and the teachings of Gautama Buddha.
The walk, named “Charik Thudong Bhuddhabhumi,” started from the Thai Monastery in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. The monks plan to reach Ramagram after a two-day and one-night journey.
According to the itinerary, the group will stay overnight at Shanti Buddhist Monastery in Bhairahawa before continuing to Ramagram the following day.
Recognized by the Lumbini Development Trust, Ramagram Stupa is believed to preserve one of the eight portions of the relics of Buddha.
The group is led by Acharya Charan Anangkano, who said it was a privilege to begin the journey from Lumbini. He noted that the peace walk aims to purify the mind and soul while promoting compassion and kindness in society.
The group includes monks from Thailand as well as Laos, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Monk Vichaya said the walk is intended to practice peace and self-discipline, adding that such journeys help people understand the importance of patience and self-control.
After reaching Ramagram, the monks will continue their pilgrimage to Kushinagar, Vaishali, and Bodh Gaya in India, major sites connected to the life of Buddha.
Volunteer Akananlay said similar pilgrimages have been organized every year under the leadership of Acharya Charan Anangkano.
