UN Agencies Partner with Agriculture Ministry to Advance Resilient and Sustainable Food Systems in Nepal

Kathmandu: Representatives from United Nations agencies held a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Madan Prasad Pariyar, to discuss ways to advance Nepal’s resilient and sustainable food systems on November 3.

Riaz Lodhi, the Country Director and Representative of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in Nepal, Ken Shimizu, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Country Representative for Bhutan and Nepal, Kyoko Yokosuka, Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Nepal, and representatives from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Asia joined the discussion.

The meeting highlighted the Ministry’s leadership in promoting climate-resilient agriculture, rice fortification, and localized food system initiatives, which are seen as vital steps toward transforming livelihoods, ensuring food security, and achieving the goal of Zero Hunger.
