Kathmandu: UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) President Lok Bahadur Thapa on December 19 said the 65th anniversary of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples is an important opportunity to strengthen action for its full and effective implementation.
He emphasized the role of the United Nations system, along with international and regional organizations, in supporting the implementation of the Declaration.
Thapa stressed that continued cooperation and assistance are essential to advance sustainable development in Non-Self-Governing Territories and to ensure that no one is left behind in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
