Kathmandu: The President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Lok Bahadur Thapa, met with Rabab Fatima, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, to discuss development challenges and priorities of developing countries.
The meeting focused on the priorities of Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), with discussions centred on the need for enhanced support, inclusive development, and stronger representation in multilateral processes.
Moreover, President Thapa further emphasised that his presidency of ECOSOC will focus on addressing countries in special situations through financing for development, food security, digital inclusion, youth entrepreneurship, and climate justice.
Both of them also exchanged views on the United Nations’ 80th anniversary (UN80), as well as the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) and the Awaza Programme of Action (APoA).
