UN Women Deputy ED Gumbonzvanda Joins Development Partners for Meeting on Gender Equality Mandate in Nepal

Kathmandu: Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, UN Assistant Secretary General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director, joined development partners for a meeting to strengthen collective action for gender equality mandate in Nepal.

Chaired by the UN Resident Coordinator, Lila Pieters Yahia, the dialogue brought together development partners reflecting broad international commitment to Nepal’s development journey. Discussions highlighted Nepal’s progress on women’s leadership and inclusive governance, while recognizing persistent challenges around women’s economic opportunities, financing, and substantive participation in decision-making.

UN Women Nepal stated that at a time of growing global pressure on gender equality financing and women’s rights, the meeting emphasized the importance of stronger coordination among development partners to better support the government, civil society, women’s rights organizations, and the private sector in accelerating progress on SDG 5.

Reaffirming UN Women’s commitment, the discussion underscored that sustained partnerships and coordinated action are critical to advancing women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and inclusive development for all women and girls.
