Kathmandu: The UNDP-led consortium implemented Strengthening Urban Preparedness, Earthquake Preparedness and Response in the Western Region of Nepal (SUPER-II) project which was funded by EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid. The Unicef Nepal, UN Women Nepal, and Handicap International brought media advocacy to the forefront of disaster risk reduction in western Nepal.
From Birendranagar to Nepalgunj to Dhangadhi, local journalists amplified voices from the ground spotlighting gaps in preparedness and pushing for stronger action from provincial and local governments.
Their stories sparked real conversations. Policymakers, elected leaders, civil society, first responders, and communities, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQI+ individuals, came together for critical dialogue and accountability.
Six journalists will now take these stories further through opinion pieces, calling for greater awareness, stronger coordination, and increased investment to better prepare for future disasters.
