US Embassy Concludes the AFS Workshop on ‘Smartphone Cinematography & Digital Distribution’

Kathmandu: The US Embassy concluded the American Film Showcase (AFS) workshop on “Smartphone Cinematography & Digital Distribution” with a Final Showcase to celebrate participants and their projects on May 8. Under the mentorship of award-winning filmmaker and advertising executive Izzy Chan, participants progressed from developing a concept to producing a final cut, building their skills in video shooting, interviewing, and editing using smartphone technology.  The result is a compelling series of short documentary films focused on American/local brands and applying storytelling techniques in a real-world, commercially viable context.

At the showcase, Scott Urbom, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy, commended participants for their creativity and dedication, highlighting how programs like AFS advance global creative engagement, strengthen creative economies, and promote shared values through storytelling and innovation.

By producing original content, participants brought fresh and locally grounded perspectives to their storytelling, showing how Nepali audiences can connect with global ideas and meet market demand with technology they already have. At the same time, they gained practical experience creating polished, brand-driven content, building skills that can support careers in Nepal’s growing creative and digital media sectors and in international collaborations.
