US PAC Harker Treks to Pangboche Monastery for a Restoration Completion Ceremony

Kathmandu: Mike Harker, Public Affairs Chief of the US Embassy, trekked to Pangboche for a restoration completion ceremony at Pangboche Monastery, one of the oldest and most significant monasteries in the Khumbu region and a center of Sherpa Buddhist heritage and community life.

Funded by U.S. Embassy Nepal, the restoration strengthened the monastery’s structure while preserving its traditional design.

The Pangboche Monastery Management Committee led the effort, in close partnership with Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality and the Pasang Lhamu Foundation. Community leadership continues to guide stewardship of the monastery and ensure its preservation for future generations.

Beyond conservation, the project supports local jobs, encourages tourism, and helps sustain cultural traditions. It also reflects the enduring partnership between the United States and Nepal in strengthening communities through cultural heritage.
