World Cities Day Marked Globally with Focus on ‘People-Centered Smart City’

Kathmandu: The World Cities Day is being observed today across the globe with the theme “People-Centered Smart City”, emphasizing sustainable urban development and international cooperation.

The United Nations–designated day highlights the vital role of cities as centers of human progress, innovation, and social development. This year’s global observance is being held in Bogotá, Colombia, with special programs focused on advancing inclusive and sustainable urban growth.

First celebrated in 2014, World Cities Day aims to promote global collaboration to create resilient, equitable, and sustainable cities capable of addressing challenges such as housing shortages and rapid urbanization.

According to the United Nations, over half of the world’s population now lives in urban areas, underscoring the need for smart and people-centered urban planning to ensure sustainable development for future generations.
