Every year on Asar 15, the 15th day of the Nepali month of Asar, Paddy Plantation Day is marked in Nepal. Known as Rastriya Dhan Diwas, the occasion is held as a day of celebration by farmers who plant paddy saplings and expect to get good harvests three months later. The Dhan Diwas in Nepal this year was marked on June 29 (Monday).
The day marks the beginning of the main rice plantation season during the monsoon and celebrates the importance of rice, Nepal’s staple crop and one of the country’s most important agricultural products.
Ambassador of Australia to Nepal, H.E. Simon Ernst, and his wife, Simone Murphy, recently participated in the annual rice planting festival Ropain.
Likewise, British Ambassador to Nepal, H.E. Rob Fenn shared his experience of Nepali agriculture by participating in paddy planting in Lalitpur.
