Italian-Nepal-Based Artist Showcases Vibrant New Exhibition in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Italian-born, Nepal-based artist Giovanna Caruso has unveiled a new collection of paintings in Kathmandu, continuing to impress audiences with her bold use of colour and cross-cultural themes.

Known for her vibrant style, Caruso blends influences from her Mediterranean roots and her life in the Himalayas. Her artworks feature bright palettes, intricate details and imaginative forms that create what many describe as a “visual carnival.” Motifs such as masked Venetian figures and Hindu deities often appear side by side, reflecting the cultural fusion that defines her work.

Caruso’s paintings carry a distinctly feminine voice: gentle, expressive and independent. While her pieces may appear decorative at first glance, she says their purpose is to evoke emotion and celebrate beauty without relying on symbolic complexity. Many of her works draw from folklore and personal experience, merging everyday life with dreamlike fantasy.

Her latest exhibition, now open at Kala Salon Gallery on the 5th floor of Chhaya Center, Thamel, offers visitors another glimpse into her colourful world. The show will run until December 12.

Caruso’s artistic approach remains rooted in introspection and a spirit of exploration, allowing her to create paintings that resonate with warmth, imagination and cultural harmony.
