Kathmandu: A special painting exhibition by renowned artist Kiran Manandhar has opened in Kathmandu, in collaboration with the Ncell Foundation. The exhibition is being held simultaneously at four venues: the Museum of Nepali Art (MoNA) in Thamel, Kathmandu Art House, Kathmandu Guest House, and Kathmandu Guest House Patan.
The exhibition showcases a selection of paintings from Manandhar’s nearly five-decade-long artistic journey, featuring works that explore the evolving interplay of color, line, and abstract expression. According to MoNA, the collection reflects various artistic dimensions and experiences gathered throughout this period.
“The name of the exhibition is inspired by the artist’s own name, Kiran, which means ‘light’,” said Rajan Shakya, Chief Curator of MoNA. “There is no need to relight the light—Kiran Manandhar is the light itself.”
Speaking at the opening, Kiran Manandhar expressed his hope that such exhibitions would help promote Nepali art and culture, while also inspiring the younger generation. “These exhibitions allow for interaction with the audience and offer an opportunity to share and exchange knowledge about art,” he said, thanking Ncell Foundation and other supporters for their contribution.
Bishakha Laxmi Kunwar, Director of Ncell Foundation and Special Projects, said the Foundation was proud to support the initiative. “We are honored to collaborate with MoNA on this exhibition by veteran artist Kiran Manandhar. Ncell Foundation is committed to preserving and promoting Nepali art, and we believe cultural heritage will continue to inspire generations to come,” she said.
The exhibition is also supported by Old Durbar, Koseya, Docha, and Solukhumbu. It will remain open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the end of September.
