Kathmandu: The President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) met Fane Fotu Fituafe, Minister of Internal Affairs of Tonga, during the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development held in Bangkok.
During the meeting, the ECOSOC President congratulated Minister Fituafe on her election as Chair of the Forum. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to address the impacts of climate change and discussed the connection between glacier melting and rising sea levels.
The President also thanked the Minister for her participation in the high-level event titled “Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) to the Sea: Vanishing Glaciers and Rising Seas in a Warming World,” which aims to promote climate action across Asia and the Pacific.
